Please explain how your salary of $2.5 million couldn't be put to better use as part of Emerging Technology's budget?

I’m going to divide this question into 3:

• Should Mozilla have anyone other than engineers, or ET engineers?
• If so, should Mozilla have “executives”; and

• If so, how should Mozilla pay those execs?

  Question 1 clearly I believe the answer is yes, and that broad-based leadership which includes but extends beyond engineering expertise is required. Building great technology is key, and I’m proud of Mozilla’s capacities here. More is required however, to start with technology and have the kind of impact on human lives that we want.
  Question 2: again, my answer is yes. I struggled for years to understand the term "exec" and what it means beyond leadership. I've come to believe this is an important role, and there is something about the scope and set of responsibilities that is important to success.
  Question 3: Executive compensation is a general topic -- are execs, esp CEOs paid too much? I'm of the camp that thinks the different between exec comp and other comp is high. So then i think, OK what should mozilla do about it? My answer is that we try to mitigate this, but we won't solve this general social problem on our own.
  Here's what I mean by mitigate: we ask our executives to accept a discount from the market-based pay they could get elsewhere. But we don't ask for an 75-80% discount. I use that number because a few years ago when the then-ceo had our compensation structure examined, I learned that my pay was about an 80% discount to market. Meaning that competitive roles elsewhere were paying about 5 times as much. That's too big a discount to ask people and their families to commit to.

Je suis quand même triste de ce qui est arrivé à cette fonctionnalité, elle n'est jamais devenue assez mature pour que Mozilla la mette en avant, donc personne n'a été au courant de son existence, alors même que je trouve que c'est une fonctionnalité qui fait clairement la différence par rapport à Chrome.

Par contre chapeau sur la gestion du retrait de la fonctionnalité, la petite bannière d'avertissement et le plugin clé en main pour continuer à avoir cette fonctionnalité.

C'est plutôt une bonne chose en fait. Thunderbird n'a pas vraiment besoin de Mozilla pour avancer (Thunderbird a très peu besoin d'avancer en réalité) et la communauté de Thunderbird pourra plus facilement se structurer sans l'influence démesurée de Mozilla (ce qu'ils ont déjà commencé à faire : http://linuxfr.org/news/du-nouveau-pour-thunderbird )

Servo est le projet de recherche de Mozilla et Samsung pour remplacer Gecko et blink/webkit pour le rendu des pages web.
Il est écrit en Rust et s'appuie massivement sur le parallèlisme pour accélerer considérablement le rendu.
